A Center for Urban Studies
Rome, Italy

Fall 2021

This project features the design of a new Center for Urban Studies located on the Via Giulia in Rome. The building follows the Roman Palazzo typology while being dedicated to academic, administrative, and mixed-use functions.

Important design precedents include Palazzo Salviati and Palazzo Mattei. The building has a strong connection with its courtyard and gardens, with many axes connecting the two.

Most importantly, the Piano Nobile incorporates an enfilade of regular rooms, the most public at the beginning. The architectural character remains consistent with that of historic surrounding Rome.
